TSN Shark Tank expert on defence investing

Welcome back to The Stock Scoop, a community with fresh takes on the latest stock news, exclusive CEO interviews, and expert insights that matter most to investors like you. If you’re new here, we’re glad you’ve joined a growing community that knows staying informed is the first step to investing smarter.
Recently, the signs of growing global tension have become difficult to overlook as global tensions rise. Defence is rarely an easy conversation, it’s about threats we hope never materialise. But the sheer scale of investment flowing into this sector shows us one thing clearly, it can’t be ignored.
That’s what compelled me to launch the ASX Gems investor conference, a digital event that will livestream this Friday register to watch here. An opportunity to cut through the noise and bring investors face-to-face with experts, thought leaders, and ASX-listed companies shaping Australia’s defence future.
I’m proud to share that our keynote this Friday is Steve Baxter, one of Australia’s best-known entrepreneurs and a former Shark Tank star. Steve now leads Beaten Zone Venture Partners, a fund at the forefront of investing in cutting-edge defence technology.
We’ll also hear from Major General (Ret’d) Gus McLachlan AO, who oversaw the modernisation of Australia’s defence capabilities during his 37-year career in the Army. Gus brings a rare perspective on cybersecurity, drone technology, and next-generation command systems that few investors get to hear firsthand.
And, it’s not just defence pulling in investment right now. IPO activity is picking up, and conferences like Gems are highlighting investor appetite. This IPO went up 265% in its first week, while here are all the recent IPOs that have listed.
Streaming this Friday - I invite you to register for the ASX Gems Conference. Our defence spotlight will dive into strategies for navigating global geopolitics and driving defence innovation, alongside practical sessions from some of the ASX’s most compelling defence-focused companies.
Live this month in Melbourne - our friends at TIP Group are hosting the Emerging Wealth Winners® conference on Tuesday 21 October and will also feature a defence panel presenting live. Click here to book and use TSN’s special discount code StockNet50 to receive a $50 discount on your ticket.
