Gold diggers uncovered

Discovering the gold stocks drilling future returns

Gold has been on a tear recently, hitting an all-time high in January. What lit the fuse? A buying spree by central banks, a nervy geopolitical backdrop, and bets that US interest rates were heading lower. Gold has come off the boil since then, but central banks haven’t lost their appetite. So who’s cashing in?

In this video I headed to Barangaroo in Sydney for the Australian Gold Conference this week, our largest precious metals investment event. Host Kerry Stevenson, known as That Gold Lady, knows how to put on a show and I joined 600+ investors and 40+ ASX-listed companies to find out what’s behind the glitter.

As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "The desire of gold is not for gold. It is for the means of freedom and benefit."

To your investing,

At the Australian Gold Conference every miner in the room had a story to tell, record quarters, resources, drill holes and mining developments around the world, all listed here on the ASX.

Southern Palladium (ASX:SPD, JSE:SDL): Material update in project value, South Africa
Executive Chairman Roger Baxter discusses the updated Prefeasibility Study for the Bengwenyama PGM-chrome Project in South Africa, which more than doubled post-tax NPV to US$1.96 billion.

49 Metals (ASX:49M): Drilling at Gold Mountain in Nevada, U.S.A.
Managing Director Phil Carter discusses fast-tracking a 3,500m drilling program at Gold Mountain in Nevada and exploring the scale and growth potential of a broad gold-silver system.

What the price of gold tells us about the stock market
Here’s a simple way to keep score between shares and gold, divide the Dow Jones by the gold price. You get the number of ounces of gold it would take to “buy” the whole index. At the height of the dot-com bubble, it took around 40. At gold’s last great peak in 1980, barely more than one. Today it’s around 10 and sliding. Historically, a falling ratio has often meant a struggling share market, yet US shares are near record highs. The reason? Gold is simply running even faster.

🇦🇺 Where is Australia’s gold kept?
Do you know exactly where your savings are held? Central banks are asking the same question about their gold reserves. The Dutch central bank recently relocated 86 tonnes of gold from North America to London, citing crisis preparedness and faster access to liquidity. Australia’s Reserve Bank already holds 99.9% of its gold in London, the world’s leading gold trading hub. Watch TSN's Take

✨ When is a gold ounce not a gold ounce?
What exactly is a gold equivalent ounce, and why does it matter to investors? Mining companies use this measure to combine production of different metals into a single figure, based on their relative market values. For example, DPM Metals (ASX:DPM) reported 97,000 gold equivalent ounces, but only 53,000 were actual gold. The balance represented silver, copper, zinc and lead. As commodity prices change, so does their gold equivalent value. Watch TSN’s Take

Rick Rule explains what mining prospect generators are and how prospect generators view exploration as a knowledge business, not an asset business. Generating geological concepts through technical and commercial expertise, farming out exploration to other mining companies to fund the heavy lifting and building a portfolio of projects while retaining exposure to multiple opportunities.
