AI race ramps up with free AI, AI rules & new AI IPO

Every so often, the AI race stops being a race and turns into a giveaway. This week, a Chinese start-up released a strong AI model it plans to hand out for free, causing another “DeepSeek moment” and a sell-off in chip stocks.

Back home, the conversation got more practical. Australia’s Prime Minister flagged new AI rules, including getting big data centres to put more energy into the grid than they take out, and TSN interviewed an Aussie sovereign AI company heading onto the ASX next month.

The good news is the AI trend is no longer something that is just confined to Silicon Valley: it is going truly global, which means many more opportunities for savvy investors.

To your investing,

EIQ CEO Dustin Haines discusses EchoIQ's recent research collaboration with Mayo Clinic, binding Heads of Agreement with Pro Medicus (ASX:PME), a $110 million institutional placement and access to an exclusive imaging dataset designed to further strengthen its AI competitive moat.

SCX.ai CEO David Keane, founder of ASX success story Bigtincan (ASX:BTH) discusses SCX.ai's proposed ASX listing next month, Australia's sovereign AI opportunity, enterprise demand for locally hosted AI and how SCX.ai plans to build a leading domestic AI platform.

How does your AI stack up with the rest?

Every AI lab says its model is the best. The Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index is one attempt to check the homework. It pulls the data from nine tests covering maths, science, coding and reasoning, into a single score out of 100, all run independently rather than self-reported. Check out how your preferred AI compares.

A highlight of this week has been supporting the Noosa Mining Conference as an official media partner, where ASX listed companies presented to a sold-out audience of investors. As the race to build AI accelerates, mining has become the foundation of the infrastructure powering it. TSN captured some of the biggest mining stories and market themes making headlines:

BHM Executive Chair Patrick Walta discusses record quarterly production, operational momentum and how Main Lode and Pinnacles are expected to drive the next phase of growth.

Sky Metals (ASX:SKY) - Growing resource and imminent PFS

SKY Managing Director & CEO Oliver Davies discusses why Tallebung is rapidly emerging as one of Australia's most compelling critical minerals development stories.

Oceana Metals (ASX:OCN) - Unlocking the scale of Serra Negra

OCN Chair Russell Curtin discusses what to expect as it prepares to begin a major 20,000m drilling program at its Serra Negra Rare Earths Project in Brazil.

Pantoro Gold (ASX:PNR) - Norseman's next growth phase

PNR Managing Director Paul Cmrlec discusses the significance of the recent high-grade Racetrack discovery and how Pantoro is expanding Norseman through new underground mines and operational growth.
